Chilli Disease Identification and Easy Management Practices.
Cercospora Leaf Spot (Cercospora spp.)Disease:
Cercospora Leaf Spot (Cercospora spp.)

Symptoms:

Small yellow or brown spots with grey or white centers and dark margins appear on leaves. This leads to leaf yellowing and eventual leaf drop.

Chemical & Dosage(per acre):

Chlorothalonil @ 200 lit/acre -Kavach Mancozeb @ 0.1/lit water (use as per label dosage)-Sprint

Mode of Application:

Foliar spray. Apply preventively or at the first sign of symptoms for effective management.

Anthracnose (Ripe Rot) (Colletotrichum spp.) Disease:
Anthracnose (Ripe Rot)

Symptoms:

Small, water-soaked lesions on fruit that expand and become sunken, tan to black, with salmon-colored spores.

Chemical & Dosage (per acre):

Carbendazim 50% WP @ 400 g/acre – Bavistin

Mode of Application:

Foliar spray.

Powdery Mildew (Leveillula taurica) Disease:
Powdery Mildew (Leveillula taurica)

Symptoms:

Patchy white powdery growth on leaves, premature leaf drop, and sunscald on exposed fruit.

Chemical & Dosage (per acre):

Sulphur 80% WP @ 2 kg/acre – Sultaf, Cosavet

Mode of Application:

Foliar spray.

Damping Off (Pythium spp., Rhizoctonia spp.) Disease:
Damping Off Disease

Symptoms:

Seedlings fail to emerge or collapse after sprouting; lower stem browning, soft or collapsed stems, and brown spots on leaves.

Chemical & Dosage (per acre):

Metalaxyl 35% WS @ 3 g/kg seed (seed treatment) – Apron, Ridomil

Mode of Application:

Seed treatment.

Phytophthora Blight (Phytophthora capsici) Disease:
Phytophthora Blight Disease

Symptoms:

Water-soaked stem lesions, yellowing and wilting, root and fruit rot, and plant death.

Chemical & Dosage (per acre):

Metalaxyl 8% + Mancozeb 64% WP @ 2 kg/acre – Ridomil Gold

Mode of Application:

Soil drench or foliar spray.

Chilli Leaf Curl Virus (Begomovirus, transmitted by whitefly) Disease:
Chilli Leaf Curl Virus (Begomovirus, transmitted by whitefly) Disease

Symptoms:

Severe leaf curling, mosaic, and mottling, stunted plants, and distorted leaves.

Chemical & Dosage (per acre):

Imidacloprid 17.8% SL @ 0.5 ml/lit (for vector control) – Confidor

Mode of Application:

Foliar spray.

Mosaic Virus (Tobacco Mosaic Virus - TMV):
Mosaic Virus

Symptoms:

Leaves become blistered and mottled, with dark spots. Leaves point downwards, and plants show stunted growth.

Chemical & Dosage (per acre):

No direct cure; remove infected plants and control vectors.
Thiamethoxam 12.6% + Lambda-cyhalothrin 9.5% ZC @ 0.3 ml/lit of water – Alika

Mode of Application:

Foliar spray.

Disease Management Notes:

Bacterial Leaf Spot: Remove infected parts; use certified seeds; apply copper fungicides as foliar spray.
Anthracnose: Remove diseased fruit; use healthy seeds; apply fungicide if severe.
Powdery Mildew: Improve ventilation; remove infected leaves; apply sulphur-based fungicide if needed.
Damping Off: Avoid overwatering; use clean soil; treat seeds with metalaxyl.
Phytophthora Blight: Ensure good drainage; avoid waterlogging; use metalaxyl + mancozeb as soil drench or foliar spray.
Chilli Leaf Curl Virus & Mosaic Virus: Control whitefly with insecticides; remove and destroy infected plants; no chemical cure for virus.

Application Guidelines:

Foliar sprays are commonly used for fungal and bacterial diseases.
Seed treatment is essential for damping off.
Soil drench is effective for soil-borne diseases like Phytophthora.
