Symptoms:
This pest causes wilting of leaves, creates holes in the whorl, leaves behind sawdust-like frass, leads to severe defoliation, and can damage maize cobs.
Chemical & Dosage(per acre):
Spinosad 45% SC at 60 ml or Emamectin Benzoate 5% SG at 80 g, or Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC at 60 ml
Trade Name(Example):
Tracer (Spinosad),
Proclaim (Emamectin),
Coragen (Chlorantraniliprole).
Mode of Application:
Spray the selected insecticide on the whorl and leaf surface using a knapsack sprayer. Repeat the application if necessary, especially if pest pressure persists.
Symptoms:
Larvae bore into the stem, causing holes and tunneling. Plants exhibit dead heart symptoms (central shoot drying), yellowing of leaves, and stunted growth. Severely infested plants may lodge or break easily, leading to significant yield loss.
Chemical & Dosage(per liter):
Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC: 0.3 ml per liter of water
Cartap Hydrochloride 50% SP: 2.5 g per liter of water
Flubendiamide 20% WG: 0.25 g per liter of water
Trade Name:
Coragen (Chlorantraniliprole),
Tata Cartap (Cartap Hydrochloride),
Fame (Flubendiamide)
Mode of Application:
Spray the recommended insecticide solution on the stem base and leaf surface using a knapsack sprayer. Ensure thorough coverage; repeat the application if pest infestation persists
Symptoms:
Eggs are laid on the seedlings, and maggots bore into the central shoot, causing dead heart symptoms (central leaf dries up and can be easily pulled out). Affected plants may show stunted growth, reduced tillering, and poor stand establishment.
Chemical & Dosage(per litre):
Imidacloprid 17.8% SL: 0.3 ml per liter of water
Thiamethoxam 25% WG: 0.3 g per liter of water
Carbofuran 3G (granular): 7 kg per acre (apply to soil, not as a spray)
Trade Name:
Confidor (Imidacloprid),
Alika (Thiamethoxam),
Furadan (Carbofuran)
Mode of Application:
Spray the recommended insecticide solution on seedlings and soil around the base using a knapsack sprayer. For granular insecticides like Carbofuran, broadcast uniformly in the soil at sowing or early seedling stage. Repeat spray if infestation persists.
Symptoms:
Larvae bore into stems and leaf sheaths, causing water-soaked spots and holes in leaves. Plants show drying of the central shoot, yellowing, and stunted growth. Severe damage leads to ragged leaves, falling plants, and major yield loss. .
Chemical & Dosage(per litre):
Chlorantraniliprole 18.5% SC: 0.3 ml per liter of water
Spinosad 45% SC: 0.8 ml per liter of water

Symptoms:
Bores holes in stored grains, turns grains powdery, reduces grain quality, and weight.
Chemical & Dosage(per liter):
Malathion 50% EC: 2 ml/liter (spray on empty bins)
Aluminium Phosphide: 3 tablets/ton (fumigation)
Deltamethrin 2.5% WP: 2 g/liter (spray on empty bins)
